The Journal operates on the principles of scientific integrity, openness, reproducibility of results and ensuring confidentiality. The use of generative artificial intelligence tools is allowed only on condition of their transparent declaration, mandatory human control and full compliance with ethical standards and data protection requirements.
The introduced provisions are consistent with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Policy on Authorship and Use of Artificial Intelligence
The Оournal is guided by the “Recommendations on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Communication” prepared by the European Association of Science Editors.
The Editorial board considers artificial intelligence (AI) tools as an auxiliary technological resource that can increase work efficiency. At the same time, the results obtained with the help of such systems are subject to mandatory verification and professional interpretation. Given the generative capabilities of AI (text creation, information analysis, report preparation, etc.), there are risks of its unfair use in the preparation of scientific materials. Therefore, the regulation of the use of AI is directly related to the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics.
For authors
The Editorial board expects authors to transparently declare any use of artificial intelligence tools during manuscript preparation. AI technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of publications, as they are not able to bear responsibility for the reliability, integrity and originality of scientific work, which are mandatory criteria for authorship.
Authors are required to adhere to the following principles. It is not recommended to use responses or AI-generated links as primary sources to confirm scientific statements, as such data may be inaccurate, incomplete or fabricated. In the case of using AI to collect, clean, analyze or interpret data, authors should clearly state this in the “Materials and Methods” section (or the corresponding section of the article). It is advisable to provide information on verifying the reliability of the results and ensuring their reproducibility. The fact of using AI to create (generate) data is necessarily disclosed in the text of the article. While such data can be used for educational or modeling purposes, they also pose a risk of generating unreliable or spurious results. In the case of using AI to create tables, figures, images, videos, or other content, this should be noted in the relevant section of the article and/or in the captions to the illustrations. Such materials may require additional verification of their correctness and reproducibility.
Generative AI is allowed to be used to improve the translation, spelling, or style of the text, i.e. solely for the purpose of increasing its linguistic correctness and readability.
All results obtained with the help of generative AI are subject to careful scientific verification. Authors should take into account that such tools can form convincing, but erroneous, incomplete, or biased conclusions.
The final responsibility for the content of the article, the reliability of the results, the absence of plagiarism, and the minimization of possible biases lies with the author team. Failure to disclose the use of AI is considered a violation of the principles of transparency and may be grounds for refusal to publish or withdrawal of the article.
For reviewers
A manuscript submitted for review is a confidential document. Reviewers are prohibited from uploading it in whole or in part to any generative AI systems, as this may violate the rights of authors and the principle of confidentiality, as well as the requirements for the protection of personal data.
Reviewers are not allowed to use AI to create or edit the text of the review, even for the purpose of linguistic improvement, if this involves transferring the content of the manuscript to third-party systems.
The use of generative AI to form expert opinions or evaluate the manuscript is not allowed due to the risks associated with the inaccuracy, unpredictability and potential bias of algorithmic conclusions. The reviewer bears personal responsibility for the content and validity of his review.
For the Editorial Board
The Editorial Board treats all manuscripts as confidential and does not transfer them to generative AI systems in whole or in part to avoid copyright infringement and data protection requirements. The Editorial Board does not use generative AI to evaluate the scientific content of manuscripts or make decisions about their publication due to the risks of unproven accuracy and potential algorithmic bias.
The Editorial Board is fully responsible for organizing the editorial process, making the final decision on publication, and formally informing authors.
